This is why I install Windows 7 64bit, and then immediately before even allow it to connect to any networks turn off all unnecessary services (Windows Update) and lock it down in Group Policy and configure my hosts file to block certain sites and urls.
M$FT is doing a bait and switch. Wants to push Windows 10 "OS as a Service" in a very underhanded backdoorish manner onto Windows 7 (in hopes of basically forcing a good portion of the Windows 7 install base to Windows 10 without them even knowing what is going on) ; using tricks like "first year for free if you upgrade from Windows 7 to Windows 10" to "lets force a Windows "update" that basically tricks people into clicking yes to Windows 10" then when we have them hooked and the first year expired, then we nickle and dime them like Adobe has milked its userbase.
Up until very recently, a good portion of all desktops marketshare still had Windows XP. Microsoft saw the writing on the wall and knew that if they didn't do something underhanded that Windows 7 would basically never go away. So that is why for the first time ever they push an "update" that coerces people to "upgrade" 'to the next version of Windows, put it on your desktop without your permission or consent, essentially using Windows as an advertising platform, then using the bait and switch tactic of "first year for free" when the vast majority of Windows 7 users dont' really even have a need to "upgrade" and have already paid their dues to Microsoft and could keep using Windows 7 for the next hundred years or for "the lifetime of their device", (lets face it, Windows 7 users have already PAID for the Windows 7 FOREVER, it is already "free forever") just to get baited into installing Windows 10 (and you CAN"T GO BACK, once you go Windows 10 you can't go back to Windows 7 without purchasing a completely new license because that is what you agreed to when taking Microsoft up on the "free" offer; you basically lose the license to Windows 7 that you already bought and paid for! ) THEN a year later down the road you get lots of other "updates" asking you to shell out more and more money for stuff that was already included in Windows 7 to begin with...
This is as underhanded as it gets. It is like a public highway that was already paid in full by tax payer monies, just to later get converted into a toll road that charges money, but the toll road says hey first month is for free, try us... with the caveat that if you try them, you can't ever go back to driving public roads ever again, then when free period is over, you get milked for every mile and can't go back.
No wonder Windows 10 is the last version of Windows. Microsoft want to trick Windows 7 users to paying for a subscription for the rest of their life.
