@Thomas - that's my point. We all probably want the end user version of TrueCrypt to be available far and wide, but technical, policy, implementation, even funding discussions may be better suited for a smaller audience. Usenet will help weed out the tactical trolls and people who aren't very technical.
That's a similar reason why the teams I lead operate on IRC instead of Hipchat or other web-based systems: if people can't figure out how to get on board with IRC, they also tend to have technical deficiencies in other areas.
